Coaldale, NV
Coaldale, NV is a modern ghost town as opposed to the usual old west and mining towns that I cover. Coaldale is located where Route 6 and Highway 95 meet in Nevada. Not a lot of information is available about Coaldale, and what happened to its inhabitants. I will share with you the small amount of information that I have been able to dig up.
It is unclear when Coaldale was originally settled, however I’ve managed to find that the entire area was abandoned in 1993. The EPA closed the gas station claiming that the underground tanks had a leak. With no gas fewer people stopped and patronized the other businesses in Coaldale which included a motel, a garage, a restaurant, and gambling facilities all owned by the same family. Eventually this led to the closing of the businesses and the family moving on.
In 1994, Coaldale was used as the set of a bloody biker action flick called “The Stranger”. More information on the film is available at IMDB.
In 2006, the town of Coaldale was placed up for sale by the previous owner. The asking price being $70,000. It’s unknown if they ever sold it, if they have the new owners haven’t done anything with it.
In 2008, it was reported by a visitor to the town that the restaurant and cafĂ© had been burned to the ground. They reported a sign being placed there that read, “To those who died here”. It’s unclear what that is in reference to.
Today a number of structures remain including the motel, living quarters and garage. Coaldale for me was one of the weirdest and eeriest places that I have ever visited. When going through the hotel and living quarters I was waiting for someone to pop out at any corner. A number of the hotel rooms are still equipped with mattresses, couches, and one even had a fridge. Some newer looking clothing was scattered through different rooms as if someone had recently been staying here. I highly recommend checking out Coaldale, especially to those that enjoy a good horror movie.
